India’s aviation sector is entering another decisive phase with the announcement of the third round of airport monetisation. Under this phase, 11 Airports Authority of India (AAI) airports are proposed for privatisation by April 2026, targeting an estimated ₹6,000 crore in revenue through strategic bundling under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The 11 Airports Identified (Across 5 Bundles)
Bundle 1: Amritsar, Kangra
Bundle 2: Varanasi, Kushinagar & Gaya
Bundle 3: Raipur & Aurangabad
Bundle 4: Bhubaneswar & Hubli
Bundle 5: Tiruchirappalli & Tirupati
This monetisation round aligns with India’s broader National Infrastructure Pipeline goals and is expected to significantly strengthen Tier-2 and Tier-3 airport connectivity, enhance regional infrastructure quality, and support the country’s position as the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market.
Why This Matters
The move is expected to:
- Accelerate private sector participation in regional aviation infrastructure
- Improve operational efficiency and service quality
- Boost investment into non-metro airports
- Strengthen regional economic hubs
- Enhance India’s aviation capacity and competitiveness
The PPP model has previously transformed major Indian airports through increased efficiency, technology adoption, and commercial optimisation. The inclusion of strategically bundled regional airports signals continued emphasis on sustainable expansion and performance-led airport management.
With passenger traffic projected to reach 1.3 billion annually by 2047 and over 200 new airports, heliports, and water aerodromes planned, India’s aviation landscape is clearly in expansion mode.
What This Means for the Industry
For airport operators, infrastructure developers, technology providers, MROs, and ground handling companies, this development signals new deployment opportunities, operational upgrades, and increased demand for performance-driven solutions across terminal, airside, and maintenance ecosystems.
The execution phase of India’s aviation growth is well underway.
