Tata Power has announced a landmark partnership with Noida International Airport (NIA) to elevate its renewable energy infrastructure with a substantial investment of ₹550 crore (approximately $66 million). Through two Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), this 25-year collaboration focuses on integrating solar and wind energy into the airport’s operational framework, aligning with India’s sustainable energy goals for its rapidly expanding aviation industry.
Under the agreement, Tata Power Trading Company Ltd. (TPTCL) will supply 10.8 MW of wind power, sourced from Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL). Additionally, TPREL will develop and manage a 13 MW onsite solar power facility to support the airport’s energy demands. This renewable energy initiative is a crucial part of Noida International Airport’s mission to become one of India’s greenest airports, setting a precedent in the sustainable airport operations sector.
Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, expressed pride in advancing “Net Zero Airports” and accelerating India’s journey toward a greener future. Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of NIA, emphasized the strategic importance of sourcing over 50% of their energy needs from renewables, marking a significant milestone in their sustainability roadmap.
The first phase of NIA is expected to launch, providing extensive connectivity across both domestic and international routes. This collaboration not only underscores Tata Power’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions but also positions Noida International Airport as a frontrunner in environmentally responsible airport operations. As India gears up for an aviation boom with over 200 new airports in the pipeline, this partnership sets a robust example for integrating renewable energy in airport infrastructure and reinforces the nation’s commitment to sustainable growth in the aviation sector.
