Transforming Terminal Efficiency with Smart, Sustainable RFID Solutions

Ramakrishna Karanth, CEO, Kimoha Entrepreneurs FZCO

“IPTS 2025 comes at a pivotal time for aviation in India, and we at Kimoha are excited to showcase how our RFID, digital check-in, and sustainable solutions are shaping the future of passenger experience and operational efficiency across terminals.”

In this exclusive conversation, CEO Ramakrishna Karanth discusses the company’s forward-thinking approach to digital transformation, sustainability, and collaboration in aviation.

Q1. The aviation industry is rapidly evolving with digital and contactless technologies. How is Kimoha adapting to trends like biometric boarding passes and NFC baggage tags? Are there any new innovations you’re working on?

At Kimoha, we recognize the pivotal role digital and contactless technologies play in transforming aviation. We’ve strategically aligned our offerings to these trends.

We are currently developing a new technology platform with a partner (undisclosed at this stage), focused on improving baggage handling through RFID and NFC systems. It’s in the proof-of-concept stage with a leading Indian airline. When integrated with our EezeeTags, this solution:

  • Enables self-service baggage tagging via kiosks and mobile phones
  • Reduces manual processing and wait times
  • Provides real-time baggage tracking for passengers and airlines

We also manufacture IATA 740a-compliant ATBs and boarding passes compatible with biometric systems, and we offer kiosk solutions for digital ticketing. As proud members of the EezeeTags family, we champion products that reduce waste and improve passenger flow at check-in counters.

Q2. Sustainability is key in aviation. How is Kimoha integrating sustainable practices, and what measurable impact have you seen?

Sustainability is embedded in our operations. Our US Green Building Gold-certified facility at JAFZA:

  • Reduces energy use by 24% and water by 37%
  • Meets 36% of its power needs via a 1 MW rooftop solar plant

We avoid solvents, use LED curing, coreless technology to eliminate plastic cores, and implement automated waste extraction that reduces truck movements by 10x. Our FSC-certified materials, recycled inputs, and elimination of bisphenol and PVC reflect our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint.

Currently, we’re working on establishing baselines for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, investing across mitigation, neutralization, and compensation efforts, and building a data-driven reporting framework to improve transparency and long-term impact.

Q3. How has Kimoha contributed to RFID adoption in baggage handling? Can you share a success story?

We’ve been pioneers in RFID implementation. Our IATA RP 1740c-compliant baggage tags use UHF Gen2 technology for tracking luggage from distances up to 12 meters.

However, effective RFID tracking needs antenna infrastructure at both departure and arrival points—posing a challenge for widespread industry adoption due to cost and logistics. Still, our tags are already helping improve baggage tracking accuracy where infrastructure exists.

Q4. How do you collaborate with airlines like Emirates to develop personalized aviation stationery? Any examples of customized success stories?

We work closely with airlines to co-develop solutions. One standout case is our partnership supplying EezeeTags for self-service bag drops across major regional players.

These linerless, tamper-resistant tags allow:

  • Quick, independent baggage tagging by passengers
  • Reduced queues and faster check-ins
  • Streamlined boarding pass and heavy-tag printing

This collaboration has significantly boosted operational efficiency and enhanced the passenger journey.

Q5. With strict aviation standards, how does Kimoha ensure regulatory compliance while staying innovative?

Compliance is non-negotiable for us. As proud IATA members, all our products—baggage tags, boarding passes, labels—adhere to the latest IATA standards.

At the same time, we invest continually in R&D to push the envelope on innovation while meeting global aviation requirements, ensuring our partners get solutions that are both future-ready and fully compliant.
